Pilgrimage to Imago (Journey to the Mother/Self/Fly) is an open, ongoing project comprising a series of strategic objects that enable an exploration of the ‘self’. The original thirteen assets were initiated in Australia and extended through a further thirteen developed in the UK. Together, these objects investigate the formation of a symbolic sense of ‘self’ through a re-imagined psychoanalytic framework, constructed and idealised in response to a primordial mother figure.
Working across multiple media, each psycho-social stage manifests as a functioning or non-functioning ‘asset’, conceived as a Tool for Life. While ‘non-functional’ in a conventional sense, these assets engage both conscious and unconscious behavioural patterns. They amplify and draw attention to lived experience and how that may sustain and embody the enduring memory of an ever-present past.
